Shuttering in construction is the temporary or permanent mould that holds wet concrete to shape until it has set and gained enough strength to stand on its own. Height matters most on walls and tanks, since taller shuttering takes more concrete pressure and needs more ties, bracing and time to erect. Shape comes next: long straight runs go up quickly, while corners, openings, steps and curves slow the work.
